Status Quo

In the heart of Ladenburg's historic old town, a half-timbered house in need of renovation, with around 184 m² of living space on a compact 204 m² plot, had been standing empty for years. The owners were faced with the question of whether to demolish or rebuild. Together with Nemos Nest, they decided on extensive reconstruction. The aim was to create a characterful and high-energy gem in the old town.

The owners were faced with the question of whether to demolish or rebuild. Together with Nemos Nest, they decided on extensive reconstruction. The aim was to create a characterful and high-energy gem in the old town.

Plan

The design focused on openness, light, and harmonious interaction with the surroundings. Generous window and door openings were specifically designed to draw the eye to the green outdoor areas and the private courtyard with its outdoor sauna. The architecture strictly adheres to Ladenburg's old town regulations, combining historical context with modern elegance.

Maximum energy efficiency was a priority: A+ standard thanks to a new air heat pump with underfloor heating, insulated roof, triple-glazed windows, and continuous facade insulation. The bathrooms were designed as modern retreats – functional, stylish, timeless.

Delivery

  • gutting

  • roof renovation

  • New windows & doors

  • New home and building technology, including bathroom renovation and lighting concept

  • Insulation work on the house and roof

  • Features with a focus on natural materials, such as wooden floorboards, lime plaster, and natural stone elements

  • Design of the outdoor areas, including renovation of the historic barn in consultation with the building and monument authorities, as well as archaeologists.

Live

The next step was to curate the interior:

  • Living area – Harmonious lighting thanks to the right choice of lamps and cleverly placed windows. The combination of calm colors and finely coordinated materials creates a warm, inviting atmosphere.

  • Outdoor areas – wooden decks, seating niches, and a compact outdoor sauna connect the interior and exterior spaces. The greening of the urban barn roof and an integrated irrigation system complement the concept with well-thought-out, low-maintenance planting.

All surfaces were coordinated to create a calm, natural material language in order to discreetly highlight the historical substance.
